Changes to CCF this fall

6 07 2011

Hi everyone,

I hope you’re all having a fantastic summer! I’d like to share some exciting plans we have in store for CCF this fall. There are going to be some big changes and I want to keep everyone up to date:

There will be no more weekly large group. In the past, Wednesday night large group has been the most visible component of CCF. The goal of each large group was that each person, Christian or not, would leave with a greater understanding of who God is and what it means to follow him. After a lot of prayer and advice from experienced Intervarsity staff, the leadership team has decided that this goal can be better achieved in the small group setting.

Small groups will be the central mission of CCF. Small groups allow members to grow in understanding of God together. It is impossible to develop close personal relationships with every person at large group. We can better love each other and invite others into our community through small groups.

We will have a simple worship gathering every other week. This will consist of the worship team leading us in singing and other forms of worship.

We will continue to host campus wide events. Our events will address topics that are relevant to Colgate.

There will be prayer once a week. Still in Judd Chapel.

Due to these changes, the leadership team has been slightly modified:

Lauren Parrette, President
Hannah Kinney, Small Group Coordinator
Bo bae Kang, Worship Coordinator
Jane Huang, Event Coordinator

If you have any questions or comments please email me (at lparrette, not ccf@colgate.edu) The leadership team thought through these decisions very carefully. I would be glad to explain more of the reasoning behind them if you’re interested.

I can’t wait to see what God will do with CCF and the relationships we build this semester!

Peace and love,

Lauren Parrette ‘12

Senior Appreciation

26 04 2011

Next week is finals week – for many of us, that means paper-writing mania, house arrest in the library, or simply denial.
But for a select group of us – it’s the last week of their college career!

Join us tomorrow as we honor our seniors, Class of 2011!

The Prodigal God

20 04 2011

prod·i·gal / ˈprɒdɪɡl–adj
recklessly extravagant
having spent everything
You may have heard of the prodigal son: a son demands his inheritance from his father, squanders it away on hedonistic pursuits, then, having spent everything, returns groveling back to his father. But we tend to miss one important point: the father is also prodigal–recklessly extravagant in both the way he responds to his son’s demands and the way he welcomes him back with open arms.

Our God is a prodigal God–how should we respond?

Come join us for a screening of The Prodigal God by Tim Keller. We know it’s a stressful week, but we have popcorn!

Spring Cleaning at Chenango Nursery School

12 04 2011

Last week Shane Claiborne said that when we tell God to do something about the wrongs in the world, he replied, “I did do something. I made you. Now you go do something.”

With spring approaching and warm weather abounding, what better way to live out God’s purposes for us by serving the community? Chenango Nursery School needs some help cleaning up their facilities to prepare for spring, and so we’re inviting all of you to join us in spring cleaning 4 babiez!

This won’t take longer than your average large group, and you’ll be done in time for dinner!

Tomorrow 5-6:30 PM (Wednesday), meet at ALANA parking lot @ 4:50 PM

Hope to see you all there!

Shane Claiborne: The Irresistible Revolution

5 04 2011

Shane Claiborne. You’ve been hearing this name for over a semester – and now he’s finally here!

Shane preaches and practices a theology of compassion, peace, justice, and service to the poor, a message rooted in the reality of the Kingdom of God. How are we, as inhabitants in this kingdom, called to live in such a way that can’t help but transform the world around us through the power of God’s love?
